U.S. Interagency Delegation met with political leaders

U.S. Interagency Delegation led by Deputy Assistant Secretary Thomas O. Melia of the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, has held meetings with Georgian politicians today. The members of the delegation have already discussed electoral environment, pre-election situation, domestic and foreign policy at the meetings with the representatives of the Christian Democratic Movement, Georgian Dream Coalition and the ruling party United National Movement.
The representatives of the Georgian opposition and ruling parties commented for media about the topics discussed at the meetings.
`They put questions about how competitive is the electoral environment, how media covers this process, how the voter list problems were eliminated and if there were any facts of pressure on commission members, activists or voters,` Giorgi Targamadze, the leader of the Christian Democratic Movement said.
Bidzina Ivanishvili said the members of the delegation were well-informed about the situation in the country and that they provided more detailed information to the guests.
`We agreed that we`ll do out best to provide conduct of free and fair elections in Georgia,` Ivanishvili said.
`Main issues of discussion were elections, reforms and other processes. The goal of the National Movement is to win in free and fair elections and many reforms were implemented in this regards and it is very important for us that the United States is so much interested in the process in Georgia,` Ruling party member Akaki Minashvili said.
The delegation arrived in Georgia today to assess the pre-election environment. The delegation also includes officials from USAID and the Departments of Defense and Justice.
