First pre-election political debates were held on Georgian Public Broadcast on Sunday - the candidates for prime ministers of qualified political subjects, Shalva Natelashvili (Labour Party), Giorgi Targamadze ( Christian Democrats) and Vano Merabishvili (United National Movement) participated in the debates; Bidzina Ivanishvili, the leader of the Georgian Dream Coalition refused to debate with opponents.
Four major questions for the participants of the debates were prepared according to the most topical problems sent by the spectators and media. The leaders of the three parties presented their programs for state security, foreign policy, economics and finances, infrastructure, social sector and health care system issues. The debates were broadcast live on GPB.
The sequence of the participants was determined by the vote held before the beginning of debates.
Two of the participants of the debates, Giorgi Targamadze and Shalva Natelashvili went to the Prime Time Press Club to express their position about the first political televised debates. They both slammed Bidzina Ivanishvili for ignoring this format of debates accusing him of disrespecting voters.
Bidzina Ivanishvili replied to the opponents in a few hours. He said the format of the debates was absurd and staged in advance, calling on the GPB to organize real debates, in which the voters would be also given a chance to express their points of views.
