Five MPs defect from UNM, form new faction and join GD in Tbilisi assembly

Five members of the Tbilisi city assembly Sakrebulo have defected from the United National Movement and formed a new faction the Liberty. MPs - Giorgi Nemsadze, Merab Rafava, Mikheil Kavtaradze, Irakli Shikhiashvili and Zaur Dolidze have joined the Georgian Dream Coalition, which has won majority in new parliament of Georgia. The former members of the UNM say they respect the choice of the majority of Georgian citizens and that`s why they have moved into the coalition. Currently, there are 49 members in the Tbilisi self-government body - National Movement, Christian Democrats, faction Tbilisi, which is staffed with the members of the coalition and the newly formed faction Liberty.
Two protest rallies took place on the background of noise and minor incidents in front of the State Chancellery building. Verbal conflict took place between the activists several times. The tension was quickly diffused by police.
The demonstration planned by the NGO Identoba, which was intended to be held on Rustaveli Avenue today, was not only disrupted, but it caused mass clashes and violent riot on Tbilisi`s central avenue. Two demonstrations are underway on Rustaveli Avenue simultaneously. NGO Identity has decided to rally for the protection of the rights of LGBT persons on the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.
