Imedi TV temporarily quits news broadcasts

17.10.12 18:16

TV and Radio Imedi have quit news broadcasting. The Chronicle newscast which has been the last one on the channel said the decision was made by the channel`s new management.

TV and Radio Imedi will be back to live broadcast as soon as the transferring of the TV-channel to its former owners is over.

The transfer process started today. Family members of Badri Patarkatsihsvili, the late business tycoon and founder of Imedi, who died as a result of heart attack in February of 2008, arrived at the station today. The founder`s widow and sisters held one-hour meeting with Giorgi Arveladze, the director general of the channel.

Patarkatsishvili`s family members said the transfer process will take few days. The owners of the company talked to media today about possible staff and broadcast changes in the company.

"For us, the issue of journalism ethics is not just words and we will try to be very impartial with kind attitudes but very serious. Today it is very emotional for us, as we feel the big responsibility our family is facing and of course we are very happy", widow of Badri Patarkatsishvili Ina Gudavadze said.

After Patarkatsishvili`s death it was expected that Imedi would come under the control of his widow Inna Gudavadze. However, unexpectedly the half-brother of the late businessman, Joseph Kay made his claims of ownership, and as a result of various deals the broadcaster came under the control of the Georgia Media Production Group.

Georgia Media Production Group owned TV channel Imedi since December 2011.
