Transparency International - Georgia comments on Kalandze`s scandal

Transparency International - Georgia has published a special statement regarding the controversy around the candidate for the minister of energy, Kakha Kaladze, who is suspected of facing the conflict of interests as the political figure and the owner of a business company. Kaladze`s Kala Capital LTD has 45% of shares in Sakhydroenergomshesni Company, which conducts energy projects and repair and rehabilitation works on power plants. The NGO calls on the parliament to discuss the issue in time, before the new cabinet is formed. Kaladze has already commented on the dispute saying the procedures of sell off of his shares in the company will begin within ten days since he assumes the office of the minister.
Attorneys of the UNM secretary general Vano Merabishvili and president`s representative to the Kakheti Region will appeal the ruling of the Kutaisi city court by 3 p.m. today.
