Chairman of Supreme Council of Achara`s autonomous region elected

Avtandil Beridze has been elected as a chairman of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara. Davit Batsikadze was elected as a deputy chairman.
In a secret balloting, 13 MPs voted for Avtandil Beridze, while 8 MPs refused to take part in the voting. Beridze was the only candidate for the post of a chairman of the Supreme Council.
Georgia`s Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, who was an invited guest, attended the session of the supreme council of Achara.
Four factions have been formed in the supreme council of Achara. Three of them belong to the Georgian Dream coalition and one belongs to the United National Movement. Committees in teh council will be five.
Eldest MP Irakli Jashi headed the first session of the supreme council of Achara. After the speech delivered by the head of the central election commission of the autonomous region, the head of the mandate commission made a statement on recognition of power of the 21 members of council.
The supreme council of Achara has also to elect the government`s chairperson. As reported, Archil Khabadze is going to assume the position.
According to the law, the president has to introduce a candidate for the government`s chairperson to the supreme council for approval within 10 days after the first session that is no later than November 10, 2012.
