Putin steps down as the leader of the ruling party
President-elect Vladimir Putin announced today that he was stepping down as the chairman of the ruling party the United Russia. Putin met with the leaders of the ruling party today and announced that he was proposing outgoing president Dmitry Medvedev as its new leader instead. Currently Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin said it was unreasonable for him to stay on the position of the party after being elected as the president. He said the president should consolidate all political organizations.
