Christian Democratic Movement of Georgia has submitted the draft amendments to the constitution of Georgia to parliament today. According to the initiative, the citizens of the EU member states should be granted a right to participate in elections in Georgia. Leader of the party Giorgi Targamadze spoke about the details of the project and its goals at the news conference today.
`We think that Ivanishvili and his lawyers have a right to continue activities for getting Georgian citizenship. Out initiative aims at giving all political rights to Ivanishvili so that he could take part in the parliamentary elections,` Giorgi Targamadze announced at the news conference, adding that the goal of the project is to avoid reasons of civil confrontation and polarization of Georgian society.
The ruling party leaders have already read the initiative and said they were prepared to support it. Goka Gabashvili said the adoption of the constitutional amendments would finally end speculations about political motives of the controversy around Ivanishvili`s Georgian citizenship. Pavle Kublashvili said the discussion of the draft amendments would begin in parliament tomorrow.
