President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the NATO, Karl Lamers has urged the Alliance member states to support Georgia`s accession into the alliance - Karl Lamers stressed his position in his speech at the main meeting of the Atlantic Council during the Chicago Summit. He said Georgia was the most successful country in the region, which needed support; in addition, Georgia, as the model of stability in the region, was helping neighbors in transformation. `I think this declaration has very important points, first of all that NATO summit stressed and announced again that Georgia and other countries as it was announced in Bucharest, will become the members of the NATO. That is underlined and I think this is a good message. In my own speech, as the president of the parliamentary assembly of the NATO, I explained that new members have always revitalized our alliance and that NATO enlargement is very important and that open door policy must remain and therefore I urged the heads of state and government to underline again that we support and encourage those who stand and are waiting before the open door,` Lamers told media. NATO Parliamentary Assembly President also touched the problem of occupation of Georgian territories by Russia and emphasized that Russia should fulfill the obligations taken vie international agreements. Karl Lamers also focused on the declaration of the summit, in which three points entirely refer to Georgia.
