Russia appoints ambassador to Abkhazia, Georgia

Russian newspapers reported yesterday that The Russian Federation would have its embassy in Abkhazia, Georgia's breakaway region. Reportedly, Russian Diplomat, Simon Gregolyev will be appointed the ambassador of Russia in the occupied region.
Gregoryev chairs the fourth department of the CIS committee of the Russian Foreign Ministry at present. Earlier he headed the process of Russian military base pullout from Georgia.
The candidacy has been already presented to the Russian president and the proper committee of the Russian DUMA for approval.
Georgian MPs say this is another act of aggression from Russia. Shota Malashkhia, who chairs the provisionary commission of restoration of territorial integrity, says Georgia no longer needs to assert that Russia is an aggressor and that the international society sees it clearly.
According to Malashkhia, opening diplomatic representation in Georgia's occupied region will be another evidence in the lawsuit at various international law courts, which are being discussed at present.
''In fact this will not change anything for Georgia,'' Malashkhia said.
