Chief Prosecutor`s Office of Georgia has launched investigation over vote-buying under the Article 1641 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The statement released by the office says:
"On June 11, 2012, Tbilisi City Court fined Bidzina Ivanishvili for illegal contribution to the political party Georgian Dream; According to the Tbilisi City Court decision, the illegal contribution was used to purchase satellite antennas, which were distributed free of charge by Global Contact Consulting Ltd in various regions of Georgia. Despite the Tbilisi City Court decision and in full disregard of the official request of the State Audit Agency, commission of the crime of vote-being continues. Therefore, Prosecutors` Office believes that there is a reasonable ground to open an investigation.
"In order to prevent further commission of the crime, the motion asking for the authorization to seal the stored antennas was filed at the Tbilisi City Court in compliance with the requirements of the Criminal Procedure Code of Georgia.
"The investigation aims at avoiding criminalization of electoral processes and ensuring respect of the rights of individuals and political parties."
