Georgian delegation comments on NATO Chicago Summit

Members of the Georgian governmental delegation participating in the NATO Chicago summit have hailed the support demonstrated by the alliance member states and the Secretary General. Georgian delegation participated in all three major meetings of the summit - meeting of thirteen special partners, meeting of the ISAF participant member states and meeting of the four aspirant states. Georgian delegation emphasizes the fact that Georgia has been grouped with three aspirant countries, which have already gained Membership Action Plan. In the special declaration about the aspirant countries adopted by the Alliance, the leaders of the member states call on Russia to fulfill the terms of international agreements, which aims at withdrawing its troops from Georgia`s occupied territories and annul its recognition of the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The document also reiterates that the Bucharest summit decision that Georgia would become the member of the alliance was still in force. `All member states hailed great achievement and progress, which Georgia has in all spheres, they also emphasized that we are fulfilling all terms of the annual programs and agreed that Georgia`s participation in the Afghanistan operation was important not only for the Alliance but for all member states separately,` Foreign Minister of Georgia Grigol Vashadze said.
Headquarters of the International Olympic Committee and the government of Switzerland thanks Georgian government for its decision to participate in the Sochi Winter Olympics 2014. The letter has been delivered to the government of Georgia by the ambassador of Switzerland to Georgia Gunther Bechler.
