Members of the Cabinet of Minister commented on the meeting of the Georgian and U.S. presidents held in Washington yesterday. The government assembled at the session in the Government`s Chancellery today.
Prime Minister Nika Gilauri said the meeting was very important for Georgia`s future. He said several directions should be outlined from this meeting, first of all the initiative of the US president to begin negotiations on free trade relations, which is very important for Georgia`s economic activities. Negotiations on similar agreement are already underway with the European Union.
`Considering this agreement, we can imagine Georgia as a kind of a trade centre between Asia and Europe, Asia and the United States. Many companies may make investments here even only for one reason - that the commercial activities will be freed of additional barriers in relations with EU and the United States,` Gilauri said.
He also hailed the statement the U.S> president to continue support to Georgia`s defense sector, reinforcement of its defensibility, which is very important for the region.
`The last factor, which should be emphasized, is the support to Georgia`s NATO aspirations. This is particularly notable prior to the NATO Chicago summit, where the support of the United States will be very important,` Nika Gilauri said.
