The historic monument was constructed in the X-XI centuries. The decree on beginning the restoration of the monument was issued by the so-called president of the occupant regime. Georgian politicians and scientists have expressed their concerns on the decision of Aleksandr Ankvab, saying it is yet another attempt to erase the traces of Georgia culture in the breakaway region. Lawmakers and political experts call on the international community to force the Russian Federation stop destruction of historic monuments on the occupied territories.
