EU ambassador to Georgia Philip Dimitrov doubts that the statement by opposition politician Irakli Alasania has anything common with reality. Dimitrov said in the interview with Maestro Television that the EU monitoring mission is attentively observing situation along the occupation borders and in the conflict regions; therefore, the statement by Irakli Alasania regarding the formation of illegal armed groups cannot be assessed as trustworthy.
`European Union is seriously represented in Georgia not only by our office. Here are 200 other persons, who permanently observe developments in Georgia and they pay particular attention to the territories near the conflict regions. If such processes are really underway in Zugdidi, it means that the EUMM has not noticed it. Therefore, I cannot accept this information as trustworthy,` Dimitrov said.
The EU ambassador also commented on the upcoming parliamentary elections and the constitutional amendments, which allows EU citizens to participate in the parliamentary elections.
`For me as for one of the foreign diplomats, main priority is to conduct October parliamentary elections properly, in accordance with all current norms and from this point of view, all players should be given a possibility to participate in the elections. I think these legislative amendments make this possible,` EU ambassador said.
