Georgian president offers condolences to killed soldier`s family

Georgian President has expressed sorrow at the death of the Georgian soldier in Afghanistan. Mikheil Saakashvili has offered his condolences to family, friends and companions-in-arms of the killed soldier.
Sergeant Valerian Khujadze had been serving in the 31st Battalion in the province of Helmand within the NATO-led ISAF operation.
Khujadze was patrolling when he exploded on an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) and died from the injuries. He had been serving in the Georgian Armed Forces since 2004. Sergeant Khujadze also participated in a peacekeeping mission in Iraq. In 2011 he was awarded with the "Medal for Participation in Peacekeeping Operations". The family of the deceased military servicemen will receive the package of social assistance in accordance with the Georgian legislation.
United States` ambassador to Georgia Mr. Richard Norland has reiterated support to Georgia`s sovereignty and territorial integrity while commenting on the situation along the Tskhinvali administrative boundary line, where the occupant soldiers are installing wire entanglements and fences.
Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili has told Prime Time newspaper that he expected new charges against the secretary general of the United National Movement Vano Merabishvili, who is currently serving pre-trial sentence in custody for five different charges.
Tbilisi-Kutaisi flights for Georgian lawmakers will no longer be funded from the state budget - all members of the parliament and the staff will cover the cost of flights by the Georgian Airways from their own salaries. In addition, the air company has offered a 50% discount for parliament members.
