The Turkish Football Federation (TTF) has barred Fenerbahce from this season`s Champions League under pressure from UEFA in connection with a match-fixing investigation, the federation said yesterday. They will be arguably replaced by last season`s runner-up Trabzonspor.
The decision is a further blow for the Turkish league which is reeling from a court investigation of match-fixing allegations involving some of the country`s top clubs.
UEFA had written to the federation on Tuesday saying Fenerbahce must withdraw from the Champions League or the TFF should take the decision to bar them or face a disciplinary investigation the federation statement said.
MP Levan Berdzenishvili says he is not going to apologize to Georgian wrestlers as it was demanded by the sportsmen following his recent allegations. Berdzenishvili has alleged that many current and retired sportsmen were the members of `zonder-brigades` who participated in the dispersal of rallies of Nov.7 2007 and May 26, 2011.
