ODHIR representatives observing electoral environment in Georgia

Representatives of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODHIR) have arrived in Georgia to get acquainted with the pre-election situation in Georgia.
The ODHIR representatives discussed today Georgia`s Election Code with the members of the parliamentary majority.
The mission`s role and involvement in the pre-election period was lined up at the meeting.
"Naturally it`s very significant that the international monitoring mission have opportunity to get fully acquainted with the election environment. Therefore, I think the information we gave them was very interesting for them", Pavle Kublashvili, the chairman of the parliamentary committee for legal issues said.
President is now meeting with the students of the Tbilisi State University, however, amid protest. Several dozens of protestors, including students and the persons released from prisons with the status of political prisoners, greeted the president`s convoy with whistles and shouting.
Legal punishment for the persons using marijuana may be weakened or annulled according to the draft amendments to the Criminal Code of Georgia, which has been already initiated at the parliament.
Leader of the Kartuli Dasi movement and several other non-parliamentary opposition parties do not rule out to form an alliance prior to the presidential elections. Jondi Baghaturia says consultations are already underway with some parties, including Free Georgia, the leader of which also confirmed an intention to select a joint candidate for the president.
