In 1999 the close co-operation was established between Rustavi 2 Broadcasting Company and United European Football Association. Since then Rustavi 2 has been the official partner of the UEFA. Annually it broadcasts live more than 50 UEFA Champions League matches.
The UCL final between Manchester United FC and FC Bayern München which took place in Nou Camp, Barcelona in 1999, was the first final broadcasted by Rustavi 2 and it was commented by Kote Makharadze, legendary Georgian commentator. The final was recognized to be one of the best and most interesting matches played in UEFA Champions League history.
Since then more than 500 matches have been broadcasted by Rustavi 2.
The season begins in mid-September, while the final is scheduled for May. The selected matches are broadcast live on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 22:40 ( 23:40 in winter). Audience can see highlights of all the day’s games right after the live transmission. Tape delay of some of the matches is aired afterwards.
On Sundays the football fans can watch the UCL Weekly Magazine featuring reviews of all the top goals and plays of the week, players' interviews and next week's forecast.
